Description and symbolism:

The arched point, the green field and the waters below are evocative of the Taal Volcano, the pride of Batangueños and a reference to the Armiger’s place of origin. The arched point, which looks like a curtain that opens, also represents the opening of one’s heart to God.

St. Christopher, the namesake of the Armiger, is prominently featured in the center of the shield. He is depicted crossing the waters, holding a tree branch and carrying the Child Jesus on his shoulders. “Christoher” literally means “Christ-bearer” in Greek, and the image is a fitting canting of the Armiger’s name. It also presents a picture of resilience, to never give up in crossing the tall waves in our lives with Christ accompanying us.

The left upper portion borrows symbols from the coat of arms of two popes: the cross from Pope St. John Paul II and the star from Pope Francis. It also depicts the Blessed Virgin Mary who accompanied her Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ, who was on the cross, indicating her intercession.

The right upper portion carries a sitting lion, facing “Taal”, a canting of the Armiger’s last name “Leus” which means “lion”. It holds a flower as if offering it to the Blessed Virgin Mary that is in the other portion, as if she invites us to “do whatever he tells you” (John 2:5). Thus it can indicate obedience, openness and humble service.

The two colors Blue and Red, from the Philippine flag, represent the Armiger’s patriotism.

The motto is taken from Matthew 7:13, the gospel of the birthday of the Armiger. It invites to accept hardships for self-improvement and for the Glory of God.
