Angelo de Guzman y Candido was born in Caloocan City and lives in Valenzuela City (formerly Polo, Bulacan). He is a physician, post graduate professor, and holds the rank of Commander in the Philippine Navy (Reserve).
Description and symbolism:
The colors of the coat of arms, red, yellow and blue, signify the Philippines historically as being a former colony of the Crown of Spain.
The anchor represents his affiliation with the Philippine Navy but fashioned as a Cross with fleur de lis, representing the Holy Trinity, and his patron saints – St. Joseph, Terror of Demons; King St. Louis IX of France; and St. Joseph of Cupertino. It signifies the Arminger’s importance of the Catholic Faith and God above any duty.
The waves represent the archipelago of the Philippines and the City of Valenzuela as a land surrounded by rivers.
The eight-pointed star (star of Esther) signifies the Armiger’s devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary, and his affinity toward the Dominican, St. Thomas Aquinas, being a scholar and professor, and the Carmelite charism due to the Arminger’s namesake, St. Angelus of Jerusalem.
The open book signifies his scholarly inclination. Inscribed with the Alpha and Omega, it represents Christ as the Eternal Logos (Word), the Self-Knowledge of God, as the supreme desire in seeking Truth.
The snake on a pole is a symbol of healing and the profession of the Armiger as a physician. It also recalls the bronze snake of Moses in the Old Testament of the Bible, which healed the perfidious ancient Israelites from snake bites, alluding to God who gives Rapha, a Hebrew word meaning “to heal” and “to make whole”.
The motto is part of a quotation credited to St. Angelus of Jerusalem, a Carmelite priest who lived between 1185-1220. It highlights what Christ himself said, “Apart from Me, you can do nothing,” (John 15:5) and with Him, the Will and Love of God permeates.
