Description and symbolism:

The Maltese cross symbolizes Christian faith and valor, while the laurel wreath represents honor and victory. The chevron is derived from Matthew 16:18, evoking the support and foundational strength of St. Peter to the Church, and reflecting the meaning of the surname Perez as “Son of Peter.”

At the base, an open book is inscribed with “Ecc. 12:8” – “Vanity of vanities, said the Preacher; Vanity of vanities and all is vanity”, a core philosophy of the Armiger and consistent with the Christian faith. The facing page features the Greek letter Pi, corresponding to the first letter of the Armiger’s surname. It also symbolizes the mathematical constant Pi, reflecting a pursuit of knowledge and wisdom. The open book itself can also represent academic and scientific pursuits, philosophical reflection and devotion to Christianity.

The motto underscores the importance of intellectual courage, critical thinking, love of learning and rationality.
