Description and symbolism:
The crescent moon represents the Glorious Virgin Mary. It has also been a common symbol representing the Immaculate Conception as early as the fifteenth century, based on the Biblical passage “Who is she that comes forth as the morning rising, fair as the moon under her feet” (Revelation 12:1).
The sailing ship represents Blessed Peter Gonzalez of Thelmo, the patron saint of the Armiger’s hometown and to whom his baptismal parish is dedicated. The saint is commonly depicted with a sailing ship, as he is also the patron saint of Spanish and Portuguese sailors.
The wavy line represents the Rio Grande de Cagayan (Cagayan River) that flows through the Cagayan Valley. This serves as the source of life and welfare of the people of Cagayan.
The red lily on the left represents Saint Teresa Margaret of the Sacred Heart, whose feast day is the birthday of the Armiger. The red lily on the right represents Saint Francis of Assisi, the Armiger’s personal patron saint.
The white lily represents Saint Joseph, as the patron of the Church and his title in common prayers as the Terror of Demons. It further symbolizes integrity his role as the earthly spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary, whose purity is commonly represented by a white lily. It further represents Venerable Maria Paola Muzzeddu, whose life is a saintly inspiration to the Armiger.
The motto is a quote from Saint Thomas Aquinas and reflects the faith of the Armiger.
