Description and symbolism:
Red is the Armiger’s favorite color. The eagle is a reference to the Philippine eagle, and alludes to the Armiger’s rank as an Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of the Philippines. The crown is a symbol of leadership. The outspread wings harken to freedom, and are canting to the Armiger’s given name: Karl, a variant of Carlos, commonly understood to mean “free man” or “valiant”.
The brown shield and gold fleur de lis are references to the Scouts’ brown uniform and symbols. The three stars are a national reference, representing the three island groups of the Philippines; thus they are also canting to the Armiger’s given name: Lyel, a variation of Lyle, meaning “from an island”.
In the eagle’s right claw, the jeweled cross refers to the Armiger’s Catholic identity and devotion; the fleurs de lis in the tips are in honor of the Blessed Virgin Mary. In the left claw, the olive branch recalls the Armiger’s role in the Messenger of Peace initiative of the World Organization of the Scout Movement; as a branch of a tree, it is also canting to the Armiger’s family name: Lim, meaning “forest”.
The blue point at the base of the shield alludes to the waters of baptism and is canting to the Armiger’s middle name: Bautista. The anchor and dolphin recall the arms of the Philippine Coast Guard, where the Armiger is an Auxiliary member.
The motto is a call representing the Armiger’s leadership aspirations.
In this emblazonment, the suspended medal is of a Knight Commander of the Order of the Knights of Rizal.
